Fuel Pressure Regulator

Fuel Pressure Regulator - if you want to get the most from your car, you have to regulate your fuel!

Fuel pressure regulator is yet another part of fuel system that has a great impact on the over all performance of every engine. It’s very important to have it always working properly because of many reasons that will be discussed further in this article.

Fuel pressure regulator is basically a gadget that is put between the injectors and the fuel tank. It regulates the amount of fuel that goes into injectors as well as pressure that must be in some limits and that must be consistent. The unit in which is the fuel pressure regulated is PSI – pond per square inch.

Even though there are many different companies producing fuel pressure regulators, there is one and only use for them – to maintain the pressure above the intake manifold. That will make sure that there is always optimum amount of fuel going from the tank to injector. If there is more fuel then it is needed, it goes again into the tank. That is saving fuel as well as money.

The main task of fuel pressure regulator is to maintain standard pressure of fuel at around 28 psi. Of course, that differs from car to car.

If you did any modifications to your engine, you must reinstall the pressure regulator in order to adjust it accordingly to modifications. For example, if you’ve installed high flow aftermarket fuel pumps.

On a side note, there are adjustable fuel regulators available. That is especially useful because it provides automatic self-adjusting regulator and emission controller in one.
